Peter Crouch has reacted to the latest feat achieved by Mohamed Salah in Liverpool colours this season after the Egyptian national team star scored one of the goals during the 2-0 away win over Italian champions Inter Milan in the first leg of their last 16 tie as far as this season’s Champions League campaign is concerned.
Salah became only the second player to score against the Milan duo of AC Milan and Inter Milan in the Champions League with his goal against Inter on Wednesday. He had earlier scored against AC Milan in the group stage last year. Ex-Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch was the first player to score against Inter Milan and AC Milan in the Champions League during the 2011/12 season.
Peter Crouch was on target as Spurs beat Inter Milan 3-1 at home in the group stage before he repeated the feat against AC Milan by netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Rossoneri in the round of 16.
Reacting to the latest record from Salah, Peter Crouch cheekily tweeted that the ex-AS Roma and FC Basel attacker had always wanted the record.
Apart from netting against the Milan clubs in a season, Salah took his scoring run away from home in the Champions League to eight straight games meaning that he’s just four games from matching the record of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester United talisman scored in 12 successive games during his Real Madrid days.
Inter Milan were able to dominate Liverpool for large spells until the final quarter of the game when substitute Roberto Firmino and the aforementioned Salah scored the goals to put Liverpool within reach of this season’s quarterfinals. The two teams will meet again at Anfield next month and Inter Milan will have to win to stop the Reds from securing a berth in the last eight.
